The Cricket Pavilion
The Cricket Pavilion was completed in 2009. The cost of the Pavilion was met by a combination of generous parental donations, fundraising efforts by the students, drawing on the school's capital allocation from central government and £50,000 of funding was provided by the England and Wales Cricket Board which recognized the relationship between the school and Saffron Walden Cricket Club. This partnership is an example of how a school and local cricket club can work together to promote cricket amongst young people and to give them every opportunity to develop their abilities.
The Boatman Hall
The Boatman Centre provides raised soft seating for 250 and has a new digital projector allowing students (and the general public) to see films and presentations with HD sharpness and with surround sound. This facility is used for assemblies, lectures by guest speakers and film showing for film club, electives and for our film and media A level course. It is also one of the venues for the extremely popular Charities Week events which last year raised over £6000 for the local, national and international charities selected by students. As the raised seating is retractable, this space is can also be used for rehearsals and other activities.
The Sports Centre was opened in 2000 by Michael Lynagh. This facility includes the large Sports Hall, a small gym, a modern and well-resourced fitness suite and a dance studio as well as a teaching space with a computer suite to support the teaching of PE theory for GCSE, A Level and BTEC students. All students have the opportunity to use all of these facilities as they have lessons in a wide range of different sports during their time at Saffron Walden County High School. The extracurricular clubs on offer are also very popular with students.
